Beach Dogs

Sunday in the Park with Dachshunds:  We took Winston and Truman to Golden Gardens again, where we had fabulous views of the Olympics.

The beach at Magnuson Park has been off-limits lately due to toxic algae, so Golden Gardens is the only place nearby where dogs can go in the water safely.  Truman loves water, a rather unusual trait for a dachshund.

Winston, however, has never shown any inclination to get wet.  This time, though, another dog was chasing sticks, bounding through the waves, and Winston got very animated -- he was determined to chase the dog:

Until he realized that meant getting wet!  He was quite conflicted over it -- he desperately wanted to go help that dog out, but the dang water kept discouraging him.  Then he'd look over at Truman as if to ask, "What on Earth do you like about this cold, wet stuff, anyway???"

Run away!

  1. They are cute running around like that, and the water was so clear and sparkling.

Just wanted to tell you that I ordered a folding tripod stool, so I'll have something to sit on while out urbaning on the 15th.

    1. Cool -- and I just got the official word that camp stools will be allowed, though pens will not. They also say "no backpacks, large bags or large totes". I'm going to see if my 9x12" bag will be okay. Pack compactly! And I'm going to bring snacks though there is a cafe downstairs.

  2. No packs! No pens! Huh? I'm confused, why?

    1. Because it's a museum -- those are standard rules for sketching in museums, no liquid media (which includes pens), and any large bags/packs checked at the desk. I'm planning to bring a sketchbook, pencils, water-soluble colored pencils, eraser, and sharpener in a small tote. I'll also bring a backpack with water bottle, water-brush, food, and pens, and check it. After sketching for a while, I'll pick up the backpack, go outside, and finish the sketch with the water brush etc. Just takes a little planning.

Are you still interested in participating? There's a $5 entry fee, but I'm happy to split that with you since I get in free as UW staff. Parking is free!

  3. Oh, right, museum. I've got a small bag that fits all the small stuff I'm using right now, I'll check a small backpack too. Are there benches in the museum? you think the stool is useful anyway?

Entry fee is not a problem, hope I still remember it two weeks from now!

    1. Camp stools are allowed and I'm planning to bring mine -- my recollection from the last visit was that there weren't benches but then, I wasn't looking for benches then. I'll send you a reminder, don't worry!
